For more than 40 years, I have dedicated my artistic endeavor to realism in my fine art and illustration. To me, being an artist means what Tolkien called a “sub-creator"—Being created by the Creator, I am a creator––using the beauty of the world around us, life experiences and well know texts to create something new. I create more than just pictures; each image is a way of seeing and a way of connecting with visual stories.
I don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all approach. Depending on the story I’m telling, I employ the "voice" that fits best, whether with the richness of oils or the detail of ink and colored pencils or the looseness and freedom of mixed media. My ultimate goal is to create an image you can truly get lost in—one that sparks a memory, a reflection, or an inspiration. I want to create art where the composition and the story come together to touch your heart, and you want too keep looking at it. Offering a fresh perspective on well-known texts or familiar scenes, I hope to create a compelling narratives that stay with you and invite continuous discovery and inspiration. Ultimately, I hope my art will enhance your life and draw you closer to The Creator. –Daniel Hill Riedel Learn more >>
Daniel Hill Riedel Commemorates the 13 brave American Heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice in Afghanistan on August 26, 2021. It stands as a reminder of all “Heroes proved in liberating strife, Who more than self their country love, And mercy more than life!” Riedel’s inspiration to paint this image came to him at a memorial vigil for Corpsman Maxton W. Soviak (one of the 13) in Milan, Ohio and by the lyrics of “America the Beautiful” sung at the event. “My prayer is that this painting will become a symbol of remembrance and respect for all who served, were wounded or gave their lives in the War on Terrorism. And that it will be used to generate money to support those who serve them and their families.” DHR Learn More>>
